Steps On How a Sweeper Truck Works

1. Inspect It Thoroughly

Before using a sweeper truck, the driver will it thoroughly to ensure all components work correctly. This includes checking the engine oil level, transmission fluid level, hydraulic fluid level, tire pressure, and other vital parts. This ensures the vehicle will operate safely and efficiently during its cleaning duties.

2. Start the Engine

Once the inspection is complete, the driver will start the engine and engage the sweeping mechanism. This typically involves turning on a series of spinning brushes that rotate against the surface of the road or pavement to loosen any debris or dirt that has accumulated there. As the truck moves forward, large brushes at the front of the vehicle rotate rapidly, sweeping debris into an opening called a hopper.

3. Turn on the Suction System

Next, the driver will turn on the suction system, which pulls all loosened materials into a hopper or container at the back of the vehicle. The hopper is located at the rear of the vehicle and has a filter that prevents dust from escaping into the air. Typically, these trucks are equipped with large fans that create a vacuum effect to suck up the debris into the hopper at the back of the vehicle. The suction system typically has adjustable settings to control its power level based on how much waste needs to be picked up.

4. Disposing of Collected Waste Material

As it sweeps up more debris, it gets compacted inside a hopper that can hold large amounts of waste. When complete, the sweeper truck will need to be driven to a designated disposal facility to unload its contents for proper disposal or recycling. Depending on how much trash has been picked up by the sweeper truck, its hopper may need to emptied several times throughout a shift.
