How Hard is it to Wrap a Vehicle?

Understanding how hard it is to wrap a vehicle can help you better understand the benefits of hiring a professional to install a vehicle wrap for you. At Wrap Guys, they know the challenges that installing a vinyl car wrap can pose. That is why each of their technicians are highly trained and experienced in wrapping all kinds of vehicles.

Steps for Properly Wrapping a Vehicle

Vehicle wrap installation technicians follow a series of steps when wrapping a vehicle in order to ensure that the vinyl wrap application meets the highest standards. The steps taken when wrapping a vehicle include:

1. Mapping Out the Vehicle’s Surface

Before wrapping any vehicle, the vinyl wrap technician will carefully inspect the vehicle’s surface. Since each vehicle can pose its own potential problem areas, making a map of the surface ahead of time allows the technician to know where they will have to adjust the application procedure to accommodate for curves and problem areas.

2. Prepping and Cleaning the Vehicle’s Surface

The vehicle’s surface is thoroughly cleaned to remove away any dirt or grime that may interfere with a smooth application of the vehicle wrap. If your vehicle has a lot of surface damage—chips, deep scratches, etc.—it may be in your best interest to get these fixed before having a vinyl wrap applied, as the imperfections may show through the vinyl.

4. Measuring and Cutting the Vinyl Wrap

One of the most important steps in the vinyl wrap installation process is accurately measuring and cutting the vinyl to fit the contours of the vehicle’s body. A reputable vehicle wrap technician will always add a few extra inches onto each of the measurements and then trim away the excess material after the wrap has been installed.

5. Installing the Vehicle Wrap

When installing the vehicle wrap, the technician will carefully peel off the vinyl backing and begin laying the wrap on the vehicle, starting in the middle and working out to the edges to avoid air bubbles. Once the wrap appears to be applied smoothly, the technician will use a squeegee and a heat gun to remove any air that might be trapped under the surface.
