How to Assemble Cantilever Racking

Knowing how to assemble cantilever racking properly can help save you time and money, while also preventing unnecessary accidents from occurring in the workplace. At Commander Warehouse, they want to help ensure that your cantilever racking systems are installed as securely and safely as possible. That is why they have put together some helpful information on assembling cantilever racking.

Preparing the Site

Before installing cantilever racking, it is extremely important to ensure that the slab the racking columns and bases are being placed on is able to properly support the loaded weight of the entire cantilever racking system. In some cases, it may be a good idea to have a ground survey taken of the building to ensure that it meets the right requirements. It is also a good idea to determine if your area has any height restrictions or permit requirements for installing tall storage systems.

Cantilever Racking Components

Each of the components on a cantilever racking system will need to be installed correctly in order to ensure that the racking is safe for use. The different components that will need to be installed include:

Bracing

Bracing systems will need to be installed between each pair of columns in the cantilever racking system, no matter how many columns are in a row or how long the row segment is. For stability reasons, cantilever columns must be installed in sections of two or more.

Anchoring

All upright columns and bases need to be anchored to the floor, with two anchors per column and four anchors per base. Anchors should be embedded into the concrete slab at a minimum depth of 3 3/4″.

Fasteners

Fasteners will need to be used in order to attach the bases to the columns, as well as the arms to the columns. Both bases and arms can be attached to the columns using 3/4″ bolts and nuts. X-bracing should also be attached to the columns with 3/4″ bolts, nuts, and washers.
