Getting to know the differences between memory foam mattresses and latex mattresses can help you make an informed decision about which type of mattress will work best for your specific wants and needs. At Innovative Sleep Solutions, they know how choosing the right mattress can make all the difference in the world. That is why they carry a wide selection of sleep products, including memory foam mattresses and latex mattresses.
What is Latex Foam?
Latex foam mattresses provide greater elasticity, resulting in a faster response time to changes in pressure and more bounce. This type of mattress also provides more of a hugging feel than other types of mattresses and is available in natural, synthetic, and blended options.
Latex Foam Construction
Latex foam mattresses can be constructed from three different material types: natural latex, synthetic latex, and a combination of natural and synthetic latex.
Natural Latex
Natural latex mattresses are made from the raw latex that is harvested from rubber trees and are naturally processed to create foam layers. Certified organic natural latex mattresses are constructed using the purest materials, resulting in minimal off-gassing.
Synthetic Latex
While synthetic latex mattresses can be made from a selection of different materials, most are made from styrene-butadiene rubber. This type of latex mattress can have a similar feel to all-natural latex mattresses but offers less bounce. Synthetic latex also tends to have a shorter lifespan when compared to natural latex.
What is Memory Foam?
Memory foam mattresses are made from polyurethane and other materials to create viscoelastic properties. Even though this type of mattress will hug and contour to pressure applied to its surface, memory foam mattresses have a slower response time compared to other types of foam mattresses.
Memory Foam Construction
While memory foam is not a single material but a classification for a group of similar foams, all memory foam mattresses are constructed from polyurethane that has added materials. The different types of memory foam can:
- Be almost any firmness
- Be infused with gel, gel beads, copper, graphite, or other materials
- Offer a range of densities (commonly between 3.0-5.0 PCF)
- Offer a variety of response times (commonly slow to average response times)
- Be aerated, convoluted, or molded
