Knowing the different types of mobile cranes that are available and how they are capable of handling different jobs can help to ensure that you get the right one for your needs. At TNT Crane and Rigging, we know that, in order for a job to be done efficiently, the mobile crane being used needs to suit the hoisting operation. For this reason, we are always sure to give detailed answers to the question “What kind of mobile crane do I need?” to all of our clients.
Picking the Right Mobile Crane
When renting a mobile crane, it is important to consider a couple of factors about the job being done to ensure that the right piece of equipment is selected. Some of the things to keep in mind when determining the best mobile crane to use include:
Type of Terrain
When renting a crane, it is important to know what kind of ground it will need to operate on in order to get the job done. If the ground is unstable or uneven, a different mobile crane will be required than if the jobsite is paved. Crawler cranes, all-terrain cranes, and rough terrain cranes are better suited for jobs that take place off-road, while boom cranes and picker trucks are meant to stay on stable ground.
Load Weight
Different cranes have different hoisting capacities, so knowing how much weight is being handled will be incredibly important to ensure that you rent the right mobile crane.
Lift Range
If a load is being lifted to the top of a high-rise building, the mobile crane required to complete the job will be different than one that is needed to lift a load and move it horizontally over a small building or obstacle. It is important to know the lift range of a mobile crane, both vertically and horizontally. Some cranes are better equipped to lift loads to extreme heights, while others can be used to hoist materials and move them to a reasonable distance.
