At Expert Electric, we always encourage people to implement electrical systems that will save on power consumption and last as long as possible. One of the most common and simplest advancements in electrical technology that has been gaining popularity is the LED light. LED lighting is better for the environment than conventional lights and they can save you money on electricity and replacement bulbs. In order to make the best choice for your home or business, make sure that you look into what you need to know about LED lighting.
LED Lighting 101
LED lights are gaining popularity for good reason. They last longer and use much less energy than regular lights, and they are not as much of a fire hazard as they do not generate as much heat. Some things that you should know about LED lights include:
What are LED Lights?
“LED” stands for “light-emitting diode.” They are essentially chemical chips embedded in plastic capsules that light up when a current runs through them. They come in nearly any size, colour, and brightness, making them useful in various applications.
LED Lights Last for Years
Because LED lights do not use filaments or other burning components, they can last for an incredibly long time. Most household LED bulbs last for 8-10 years, and many LED lights can last for decades. Compare this with most other standard light bulbs, which have a run time of only a few months.
LED Bulbs are Efficient
Most LED lights use approximately one tenth of the energy that a standard light bulb uses to produce the same amount of light. This means that you can save on your energy bill simply by installing LED bulbs throughout your home or office.
LED Lights Can Be Any Colour
By changing the colour of the casing, an LED light can be any colour. There is a common misconception that LED lights are harsher and whiter than other lights and, therefore, unpreferable for homes; however, LED bulbs are available in soft white and yellow colours that are identical to regular light bulbs.
LED Bulbs Generate More Light
If you have a room in your home that is often a bit dark even with the lights on, it might be worth changing out the light bulbs with LEDs. Because LED light bulbs use less power to generate the same amount of light as a regular light bulb, it is possible to use a higher wattage of LED bulb to get more light than you could out of a regular light bulb and still use less power.
