28 Apr 2020 Industrial Equipment

Whether you own a generator, pressure washer, snow blower, or any kind of lawn equipment or logging tool that has a 4-stroke engine in it, it is important to know some 4-stroke Honda engine care tips. Honda produces some of the best engines on the market, so it is worth making sure that your machine is properly taken care of. At Western Equipment, we provide all kinds of equipment for various industries across BC, including various types of outdoor power equipment.

How to Maintain a 4-Stroke Honda Engine

Regardless of what kind of machine you have that incorporates a Honda 4-stroke engine, it is important to know how to maintain it properly. To ensure that your equipment is ready to work for you when you need it, make sure that you regularly observe the following procedures:

Oil and Air Filter Changes

You should change the oil in your 4-stroke engine every 3 months or after every 25 hours of use. Every time that you change your oil, you should also change your air filters. Check your oil regularly to make sure that it does not need a top-up.

Run the Machine Periodically

Machines are made to be used and they will rust and bind up if not used regularly. Make sure that you run your equipment periodically to ensure that everything stays in working condition.

Monitor Coolant Levels

Make sure that your Honda engine’s coolant reservoir is always full. If your equipment overheats, it can very easily break.

Properly Store Fuel

Make sure that you always drain old fuel from your 4-stroke equipment. Gasoline deteriorates quickly, especially when stored improperly, so it should not be left in your machine.

Use Fuel Stabilizer

If you do not run your equipment for extended periods of time (as is often the case with generators) it is important to use a fuel stabilizer. This will keep the fuel from causing damage to the equipment.

Maintain Your Battery

Regularly inspect your engine’s battery to ensure that it is fully charged and functioning properly.
