1. Setting Up a Rolling Ladder
When setting up a rolling ladder it is important to ensure that it is being set up and used in a way that adheres to the safety instructions and warnings outlined on the ladder’s label. Make sure that the rolling ladder is set up and positioned where it will be out of the way of people and vehicle traffic. If the ladder needs to be set up in a spot where it may interfere with the work of others, it is a good idea to use safety cones to guide traffic away from the ladder.
2. Inspecting a Rolling Ladder
Before using a rolling ladder, it should always be inspected for any signs of damage or wear and tear. It is also important to ensure that the ladder is placed on dry, level ground, away from any slipping hazards. If you are able to rock the ladder by pushing on it, then it should be repositioned.
3. Using a Rolling Ladder
Only one employee should ever be on a rolling ladder at a time. If the job requires the help of a second person, they can stand next to the rolling ladder to provide assistance when needed. Employees should never try to add extra height to the platform at the top of the rolling ladder by standing on boxes or buckets. It is also important to note that the rolling ladder should never be moved or repositioned while someone is using it. If the ladder needs to be relocated, it will first need to be cleared of any personnel or tools.
4. Storing the Ladder for Future Use
While the rolling ladder is not in use, make sure to store it in a secure, dry location to help prevent it from being damaged, as well as to minimize wear and tear.
