Pre-engineered metal buildings are among the most efficient and effective methods of construction. They are low maintenance, quick to construct, and they can look amazing with the right design; however, there are many common misconceptions about metal buildings that people believe that can keep them from pursuing this excellent construction method. Some of the most commonly held misconceptions about metal buildings include:
Metal Buildings are Cold and Inhospitable
When people hear metal, they usually jump to the associated words “cold” and “hard.” They believe that metal buildings are for storage and industry, not comfort and warmth. In reality, metal buildings can be just as comfortable, warm, and welcoming as any other building with the right interior design. The metal components are entirely structural, while the rest of the building’s interior and exterior can be completed using drywall, brick, wood accents, and anything else imaginable.
Metal Buildings Rust
Although the type of steel used in metal buildings can rust, the materials used in metal buildings are coated with rust-resistant materials such as galvanizer before the building is built. Rust is only an issue if the coating is damaged, but occasional maintenance can mitigate this occurrence.
Metal Buildings are Ugly
The idea that metal buildings are all ugly and look the same is completely untrue. Although the structural materials are metal, the finish for a metal building can be brick, stone, wood, stucco, or any other viable material. There are hundreds of options for floorplans and layouts, and the shape of the building can be anything you want it to be.
Metal Buildings are Dangerous Electrical Hazards
Many people believe that, because metal is a conductor, metal buildings are more prone to lightning strikes and dangerous to be inside of in the event of any electrical accidents. The opposite of this is actually true. Metal buildings conduct electricity into the ground better than regular buildings, which keeps the people inside safe. They are also more fire-resistant in the event of a loose or frayed wire in the walls.
