Cleaning Vinyl Window Decals
Similar to washing custom car wraps, vinyl window decals should only ever be washed by hand, as any harsh tools, such as a power washer or squeegee, may end up lifting and causing damage to the vinyl graphics. It is also important to ensure that you do not use any strong chemicals to clean your window decals, as using the wrong cleaning products will scratch, fade, or potentially break apart the adhesive holding the vinyl in place. The best method for cleaning vinyl window decals is using hot soap and water and a clean cloth.
To clean your vinyl window decals, you should:
- Moisten a clean micro-fibre cloth with hot water and add a drop of liquid dish soap to the cloth. Dish soap is a mild detergent that can be used to safely clean and remove grease and residue without harming or discolouring the vinyl decal.
- Wipe the damp micro-fibre cloth over the vinyl window decal in a small circular motion.
- Wipe the vinyl decal once more with a clean, dry micro-fibre cloth to remove any leftover soap or residue.
- If the vinyl decal still has heavy residue, buff the decal using the same moistened micro-fibre cloth while applying a little more pressure and then wipe the vinyl window decal with a clean, dry micro-fibre cloth once more to remove any lifted residue.
Vinyl window decals can also be cleaned using a hose, as long as the hose is not used at full force. If you decide to use a hose to clean your vinyl window decals, make sure to keep the hose at least 18″ from the graphic to prevent damage or peeling.
