How to Remove Vinyl from Glass

When removing vinyl lettering from glass, you should:

1. Heat the Adhesive

Gently heating the vinyl lettering with a heat gun or hairdryer can help soften up the vinyl’s adhesive, making it easier to remove. Make sure to only heat a small section at the edge of the vinyl by constantly moving the heat gun or hairdryer over the section. This should take less than a minute to start softening up the adhesive.

2. Remove the Vinyl Lettering

Once the vinyl is comfortably warm to the touch, use a plastic scraper to peel back the edge of the vinyl. As soon as you have a large enough section of the vinyl removed from the glass, you can set aside the scraper and begin pulling the letting away. Make sure to take your time removing the lettering to prevent tearing. In the event that the lettering becomes difficult to remove at a certain point, stop pulling and reheat the vinyl.

3. Remove Residue from the Glass

If any residue from the adhesive is left behind once the vinyl lettering has been removed, you can use a residue remover by spraying it directly over the sticky spots. This will make it easier for you to use the plastic scraper to work the reside loose from the glass. The residue clumps can then be easily removed by wiping the glass with a clean cloth.

4. Clean the Glass

After removing any residue, you should also clean the glass to remove the film that the residue remover might leave behind. This can easily be done by using a glass cleaner and a clean cloth to wipe down the entire surface. In the event that the cloth sticks to the glass, you should perform a spot clean with the residue remover on the tip of the cloth and then re-clean the glass.
