How to Prepare for Professional Painters

28 May 2019 Painting Services

Before having the interior of your home painted, you should take the time to find out how to prepare for professional painters. At Dunbar Painting, they want to help ensure that painting the interior of your home is a smooth and efficient process. That is why they offer a range of home painting services, including interior painting.

Have Colours Selected

Before a professional painter can start painting the interior of your home, you will first need to select the paint colours you would like to have used. Make sure to provide your painting company with your colour choices well in advance of when your home will be painted, so they have plenty of time to order materials. If you need help selecting paint colours for your home, your professional painter will coordinate with you in advance to have samples prepared for the first day of work.

Remove Paintings & Wall Hangings

While your professional painter will be able to remove most paintings and wall hangings in your home, it is important to remove any pictures, paintings, or wall hangings that are extremely sensitive before the painters arrive. This way anything with sentimental significance will only be handled by you.

If you have removed paintings or wall hangings that you do not intend to put back up, your professional painter will fill the holes in the wall for you. If you have removed paintings or wall hangings that you would like to put back in the same spot once the interior has been painted, you can simply leave the hardware on the wall.

Remove Small Decorative Items

While your professional painter will move, cover, and mask large pieces of furniture, you will need to ensure that all small items are removed before the painters arrive. Make sure to move any fragile or breakable items, as well as items stored on shelves or inside pieces of furniture that will make them too heavy to move.

Vacate the Area

Make sure to plan well in advance of when the painting company will arrive at your house to ensure that all pets can be kept as far away from the workspace as possible. While having pets in the vicinity of where the painters are working is not dangerous, it could increase the risk of accidents.

Provide a Tool Storage Area

Consider an area of your home that will work well as a tool storage area for your painters while they are working. This will give them ample space for storing their painting kits and paints until the job is done. If you do not have a space in your home that will work, let your painter know ahead of time so they can plan to have easy access to their vehicles.
