Understanding and implementing proper hoisting and rigging practices can help prevent accidents and injuries from occurring in the workplace. TNT Cranes knows that the safety of your workers should always come first. That is why all of TNT Cranes’ crane services and crane rentals are backed by its extensive knowledge and experience in crane rigging safety.

Personal Protection Equipment Requirements

Before performing a lift, it is important to ensure that all workers are wearing the required personal protection equipment (PPE), including eye, hand, and/or hearing protection.

Pre-Operational Hoist & Rigging Checks

Operators should always perform a pre-operation inspection to identify potential problems, prevent accidents, and enhance the safety of the work environment. Pre-operation inspections should include a visual inspection of the hooks, chain, wire rope, or synthetic straps to ensure that there is no damage, such as cracks, nicks, wear, kinks, or twists. It is also important to make sure that the latches on the hooks are functioning properly.

Operators should also check to make sure that the hoist is properly rigged and that all warning and safety labels are present and legible. The work area should also be cleared of any accumulation of materials to prevent tripping or slipping.

Rigging Safety

When lifting loads, make sure to use proper hoisting and rigging practices and that the operator has been properly trained. Rigging handbooks and proper equipment should always be readily available in order to ensure a safe lift. Operators who have doubts about the safety of the equipment or lift should stop the hoist and lower the load before reporting the condition to a supervisor. If there is an equipment failure, workers should use proper hand signals and communication to ensure that no one will be injured.
