Types of Notarization

28 Nov 2019 Notary Public

Although the duties of a notary public can be quite vast and the kinds of documents that can be notarized are myriad, there are only a few different types of notarization. At Sidhu & Associates, our team of qualified notaries is aware of the different requirements for the various types of notarizations and they are always happy to walk our clients through the notarization process for legal documents.

Different Types of Notarization

At Sidhu & Associates, we specialize in the preparation and notarization of various documents, including real estate, conveyancing, estate, and personal planning documentation, and we also notarize all other kinds of legal documentation. There are many different types of legal documents and they all fall under different categories of notarization. A few of the different types of documents that can be notarized include:

  • Affidavits
  • Certified copies of documents
  • Execution/authentications of international documents
  • Insurance loss declarations
  • Home transfers
  • Mortgage refinancing documentation
  • Passport application documentation
  • Personal property security agreements
  • Promissory notes
  • Proof of identity for travel purposes
  • Purchase side of foreclosures
  • Residential & commercial real estate transfer
  • Travel letters for minors
  • Sponsorship letters
  • Statutory declarations

Some of the types of notarization include:

Acknowledgements

Acknowledgements are required for legal documents that pertain to valuable properties, such as mortgages and deeds. They validate the documentation of a sale or transfer of property.

Copy Certifications

A copy certification is exactly what the title implies. If a legal document is copied, it must be authenticated by a notary in order to be legally binding.

Jurats

Jurats are one of the more complicated types of notarizations. Jurats are used to confirm the authenticity within a document and require an oath to be taken by the signer of the document in order to be valid.

Signature Witnesses

One of the most common tasks for a notary is to witness the signature of a legal document. In this type of notarization, a notary public confirms the identity of the signers of the document and provides their own validation of the document. Unlike a jurat, no oath is required for signature witnessing.
