What is the Difference Between a Fountain and a Waterfall?

A fountain can be anything that pumps water from a reservoir to a spouting point, where it can fall back into the reservoir and begin the circuit again. Fountains can look natural, artistic, or abstract, and they can shoot water in pressurized stream vertically or horizontally, or they can pump it into a different reservoir for it to overflow and allow gravity to recirculate it. All waterfalls are technically fountains, but not all fountains are waterfalls. A waterfall is a type of fountain that is designed to look natural by having the pumped water cascade over the edge of a rock or platform to fall into the reservoir below.
What is a Pondless Waterfall?
Pondless waterfalls are water features that use hidden reservoirs to collect water rather than a pond or other body of water, making them safer and more manageable than many other types of water features. Simply put, a pondless waterfall is a stream of water that does not collect in a visible body of water. While most waterfalls flow from a high elevation into a pond or other body of water, a pondless waterfall has no evident collecting point. Pondless waterfalls use a reservoir that is hidden under a collection of differently sized rocks to recirculate water through the pump system. These water features require very little maintenance and they are extremely safe for homes with small children or animals. Pondless waterfalls can take many shapes and sizes in order to suit any yard.
